The City

Munich is located in the south of Germany. With a population of 1.28 million it is Germany’s third largest city. At the same time Munich is the capital of the Free State of Bavaria and its political, economic and cultural centre. Beside its famous „Oktoberfest“ the city offers a multitude of tourist attractions and museums, as well as numerous parks and green spaces to relax in. In addition, Munich has a lively and varied gastronomic scene and offers shopping opportunities for every taste. Climate

The climate in the Munich area is influenced both by atlantic and continental air masses and by the neighbouring Alps. In the last years the average annual temperature was 9.5 °C and the average annual rainfall 950 mm. The average highest daily temperature in Munich in March is 7.7 °C. However, it should be noted that night temperatures may still drop below zero. Even occasional snowfalls are possible.


Dress code

As temperatures may still be low in March you are recommended to bring a few warm items of clothing. Participants attending the conference dinner are advised to wear appropriate attire.


Health information

Tap water in Munich is entirely safe for drinking. Vaccinations are neither required nor recommended.


Liability

The Bundeskartellamt bears no responsibility for any accidents or damages that may occur during the conference and your stay in Munich. You are therefore requested to make your own insurance arrangements.


Opening hours

As a rule, the larger shops and department stores are open Mondays to Fridays from 09.00h to 20.00h. On Saturdays opening hours vary, shops may close some time between 16.00h and 20.00h. Banks are open Mondays to Fridays. Opening hours vary but are usually between 09.00h and 14.00h or 09.00h and 18.00h. With very few exceptions banks are closed at weekends.
